Rhode Island School of Design, Class of 2021
BFA Industrial Design with Honors
Concentration Nature, Culture, and Sustainability

I am from a small town on the coast of Rhode Island, located next to a nature reserve. I grew up with my only sister surrounded by animals and wildlife. I received a pre-college all-girl school education, which gave me confidence, resilience, and strengthened my ability to lead.

I am interested in agriculture and furniture design, but have a passion for working with children. Most importantly, I love to create. My plans for the future are to be better at woodworking, gardening, and making leather goods. In addition, I'd like to experiment in creating vehicles, weld, and how to fabricate cars, bikes, and wooden boats.

In my senior year at RISD, I received two awards for my children's toys and biodesign systems projects.

VOLUNTEERING

Alternative Spring Break, ASB
2019-2020

A volunteer trip with RISD where we went to a vegan animal sanctuary. We learned about taking care of the animals and then provided them with murals and art. The following year I was chosen to plan and lead the next group of students, which later got canceled due to COVID-19.

Graphic Design Work for Non-Profit
2019-2020

I worked closely with the lead director of Creature Conserve to create an emblem for their website. This was a fun volunteer project which allowed me to experiment with my newly learned Illustrator techniques. You can see more on this project

NATURE, CULTURE, & SUSTAINABILITY

South Africa
2019

I went to South Africa with a group of women to study art in conservation and how those two things can be combined to teach people about the importance of wildlife in South Africa. During this 3 week-long journey, I managed to see lots of wildlife, connect with the local community, and create friends with South African students I still keep in contact with today.

ART EDUCATION AND CHILDCARE

Present Day

During my sophomore year at RISD, I was able to take a class dedicated to learning about teaching k-12 art education and observing a classroom firsthand at the Lincoln School in Providence, Rhode Island.

Not only did this inspire me to continue my education on art education, but I was able to bring what I learned from the class to my job at Mother's Morning Out Daycare, Providence, RI, and my nannying job. This image on the right is a vehicle made by two children in January 2020, Max, 6 years old, and Frankie, 3 years old.

Wintersession 2019

For the classroom I was observing, my leave-behind project was this handout I created for the teacher. In the style of how she presents new material, I wanted to provide the teacher with a lesson on Industrial Design to teach the children about product design and give them a project using clay.

Due to the lack of material, the teacher wasn't able to create a lesson with clay, so most of the work was 2 dimensional, but I created this to provide a stepping stone for the children to be able to experiment with 3D art.
